When is a Calcium Test Needed?

Doctors may order this test if you have symptoms of high or low calcium, including:

High Calcium (Hypercalcemia): Frequent urination, thirst, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, or confusion.
Low Calcium (Hypocalcemia): Muscle cramps, spasms, numbness/tingling in fingers, or brittle nails.
Other indications: Kidney stones, bone diseases, kidney disease, or parathyroid issues.

Test Procedure

Blood Test: A medical professional draws a small amount of blood from a vein in your arm, usually taking only a few minutes.

Preparation

No fasting is needed for this test. You can book any available slot.
Keep your doctor’s prescription or test request handy if you have one, and take regular medicines as your doctor has advised.
Tell the sample collector if you take blood thinners, and wear a sleeve that rolls above the elbow.
