About this test

Purpose of the Test

The test is ordered to identify the cause of:

  • Abnormal Blood Clots: Thrombosis in veins or arteries.
  • Pregnancy Issues: Recurrent miscarriages, stillbirths, or premature births.
  • Autoimmune Disorders: Investigation of conditions like Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
  • Neurological / Cardiovascular Issues: Strokes, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), or heart attacks.

Test Details

  • Preparation: Generally no fasting is required.
  • Method: Blood is drawn from a vein in the arm (serum testing).
  • Sample Type: Serum.

Test Interpretation (ACL-IgM)

  • Negative/Low Titer: Normal, indicates no significant levels of ACL-IgM antibodies found.
  • Positive/High Titer: Suggests the presence of antiphospholipid syndrome or a transient increase due to infection (e.g., HIV, Hepatitis C, syphilis) or drugs.
  • Follow-up: Positive results are often re-tested after 6–12 weeks to determine if the antibodies are persistent (which confirms APS) or temporary.

Preparation

  • No fasting is needed for this test. You can book any available slot.
  • Keep your doctor’s prescription or test request handy if you have one, and take regular medicines as your doctor has advised.
